DNS Records Overview (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM)

DNS records tell the internet where your website and email live. Here is a quick overview of the most common record types you will see.

  • A Record – Points a domain or subdomain to an IP address (your server).
  • CNAME Record – Points one hostname to another (e.g. www → yourdomain.com).
  • MX Record – Directs email to the correct mail server.
  • TXT Record – Stores text data such as SPF, verification tokens, etc.
  • SPF Record – Helps mail providers verify that A7 Host is allowed to send email for your domain.
  • DKIM Record – Cryptographically signs outgoing email to reduce spam and spoofing.

You can edit DNS records from either:

  • The A7 Host DNS zone (if nameservers point to A7 Host), or
  • Your external registrar (if you keep their DNS).

If you are unsure which DNS records to change, open a ticket with support@a7host.com before making changes.
